The Teen Support Line

Who are We?

The Salvation Army has been operating a 24 hr telephone crisis line ministry in Edmonton since 1966 within the Community & Family Services Department. We are members of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, The American Association of Suicidology, and The International Fellowship of Christian Crisis Centres.

In January of 1999 the Teen Support Line was established because youth were not phoning the adult line. The focus of the Teen Support Line is assisting youth in our community who may be experiencing a time of distress or crisis and who would like to speak to a caring peer. Calls are answered by trained volunteers who care about helping hurting people. These mature youth and young adults are trained to incorporate their listening and communication skills to help meet the needs of teens that are going through personal crisis and/or stressful situations. The primary goal of the Teen Support Line is to provide peer support and resources for teens in Alberta, but its main thrust is the Greater Edmonton area.

Ambulance, police and hospital services assist in emergency situations. Services such as follow-up, counselling and referrals to various community agencies are also offered to ensure that the youth in crisis receive on-going support.

"Helping teens.....one call at a time."
